About Us

The Media Complaints Council is a non-profit organisation established to help maintain public trust and confidence in the news media by promoting fairness, courtesy and balance and by creating a forum where the public and the news media can engage each other in examining standards of journalistic fairness.” It also provides an opportunity to hold the media accountable without going to court.

The Media Complaints Council (MCC) was formed out of a need:

  • to help maintain public trust and confidence in the news media by promoting fairness, courtesy and balance and by creating a forum where the public and the new media can engage each other in examining standards of journalistic fairness;
  • to ensure the publishers and broadcasters comply with the Code of Practice;
  • to achieve a quick, effective, cost-effective and fair resolution of complaints by members of the public against members of the Association, by way of settlement, conciliation, mediation, adjudication or other appropriate methods;
